To all my blogging buds. I may have to give up my sight for now. Just not enough hours in the day. I still have all of my animals but trying to work a forty hour week and keep up with 2 kids that want to be in sports and the farm work is running me a little short on time. Thanks for all of you wonderful comments and tips I will still be following you in your adventures but for now I will have to wait until I can find some time to just sit down before I can even think about keeping up with my blog. It has been fun and interesting and I have met some new friends along the way so it has all been worth while. Good bye for now.

Wow! It's been awhile. Where does time go?????

I can't believe how far I have fallen behind with keeping my site up to date. So much has happened but I am still in the land of dial up so I will just have to give you a quick catch up.

We lost our gobbler, but  still have 3 Bourbon Red Hens that are in need of a Gobbler BAD. Anytime you walk by them they lay down and spread out. If you know anyone who knows where I can get an adult Bourbon Red Gobbler please let me know.  

 
As you can see the girls are ready to pop. Four are due to come this month and four are due a little later.

If you haven't kept up with me I am back to working a 40hour week office job.It hasn't been too bad so far but when the sun comes out it might get a little tough. The cost of feed and gas is passing the income of farming and I am sure I am not the only one who has had to make changes in their lives. I have been stopping by and trying to keep up with everyone but there just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day.Hope everyone has been well and I will try to get back as soon as I can.

Desperately needing a Bourbon Red Gobbler. I have 3 hens that are 9 months old and would like to have a gobbler about the same age. If you know anyone that raises Bourbon Red Turkeys please fwd their information to me, herefordmaid@aol.com.

.. By now you may have heard about the huge floods that have devastated much of Oz. It is heart wrenching and many people are today going back to homes that are seriously damaged by flood waters that is, if their homes are still there at all. What this means to the people who still have their houses is that they will be going to see what was their homes covered in mud, all types of contaminates, oil (from nearby factories etc), sludge, sewerage and the list goes on and on. Most likely all their furniture and personal possessions will be gone, swept away and dumped either on the banks further down the river or maybe swept out to sea. If we thought it was hard seeing the floods approaching and it was, the real hardship will actually come in the weeks, months and possibly years to come as it takes time, money and effort to rebuild what was a vibrant and fast growing city back to it's former glory and hopefully make it even better. If you are a writer and wish to help (or even if you just stumbled upon this blog) don't feel there is nothing you can do, because you can. At the very least you can write about the situation and comment on blogs and generally spread the word around the world. Please go to: Kate Gordon's Blog and read the article... Happy New Year! Sorry so late, but I just started working a new 40 hour a week job after working for myself 14 years. Having to make some changes with the new year. Hopefully I can take some time and catch everyone up. Hard to believe calving season is just a few weeks away! Hope everyone has had a great holiday season. Look forward to catching up with everyone when I can.

The festival is over, the last field of hay is in the barn and winter is just around the corner. They are actually calling for a first "dusting" of snow tonight. Seems like we just finished putting  the hay in the barn and we have already started feeding. As they say in farming, you're never finished. All I  can say is I am ready for a snow day! 

Where has time gone????

Sorry, no pics with this post. I have taken some and will try to get them uplaoded ASAP. It has been one crazy month. Glad to see it coming to an end. We finished hay, count in barn around 2400 square bales. The girls are finishing up with volleyball today, YEAH!!! I have tried to keep up with my blogging buds but with a schedule of out the door at 7 AM and not back in until 9PM I haven't been able to keep up. Hope you are all doing well  and I am looking forward to some good reading this winter. Maybe I will get snowed in and be able to get caught up. Have a great day everyone!

Fall Cleaning

Homer has started brushhogging.  I try to get him to let me help, but he refuses. He will be 84 this weekend and still refuses to turn over the tractor  to me. I just let him go about his way, if not he just wouldn't be happy.I am still on weed eater duty. I asked him how many years of service do I have to put in before I get to run the equipment. You would think 40+ years would qualify. LOL

How my day got started.

Well this morning while we were waiting on the school bus I was doing a head count on the heifers that I have been keeping by the house. They are due to calf this month so I have been trying to keep a close watch. One was missing, Little Britches my bottle baby that I raised from 4 days old. After Amber got on the bus the search was on. It has been so dry this month that Homer has held off on the brush hogging, so it was like a game of hide and seek. When I finally found her over the hill in the far corner I knew something wasn't right. Just on the "other" side of the fence stood a baby calf. I crawled through the fence and helped him back to the side where his momma was. I wasn't expecting her to calf until next week but I guess she decided it was time. He was a nice bull calf weighing about 60lbs. A nice calf for a 1st time heifer. I took her and the baby and walked them to the barn. I put them in the lot  behind the barn, watched him nurse, than it was nap time for him.I have already given him a name,"Freckle". He has a cute little freckle under his left eye and the name just popped in my head.
