If you guessed flies, you're right. It was 2 o'clock in the afternoon, in the 80's, hazy, hot and humid. Of course I knew right where to find the cows, the far barn. This is where I keep their cattle rub and as you can see it is working. I keep it treated about every 2 weeks and it seems to really help with keeping the flies off the cows.
Just look at that face, not a fly one. I have been using the cattle rub with the face flips and a pour on that I apply once every 2 weeks for 4 years now. I have found it easier, cheaper and very effective. I don't have to round up the cows and tag each of the cows with fly tags, (easier) I have used 2 different types of pour on, Artoban & Permectin and the cost is alot cheaper than the tags(cheaper) and our weight gains have gone up and we haven't had any pink eye to date.(effective) So 2 thumbs up to cattle rubs! Anything to help make my job easier gets my vote.
By the way check out this calf. He will be 4 months old on the 31st. My how they have grown. It's hard to believe in just a few months he will be leaving. To date 4 calves are spoken 4 and I have an offer of first refusal on the rest. My goodness seems like just yesterday I was checking cows, now I am already selling them. Time flys when you are working your butt off. LOL
No flies! That's great. Hmmm, wonder if it is safe to use on horses and donks.
That calf is 4 months old already? Geez, where does the time go? Was he the first one born this year? The one born during the snow storm?

I’m still using the back rub on the pasture. I think where talking about the same thing. I mix it with diesel fuel. I tried with water way back when, but found the diesel worked better. Last week I started Purina Wind and Rain Mineral with Fly Control tub in the feed pen. The cost is much, much higher, but it has molasses and protein. The results showed better weight gains. I going to see if it pays off this year. It worked on the flies and the calves love it so far always going to get a lick. I won’t know until late fall if it was worth the extra cost. I hate to talk up some thing that so new.

AJ-Oaks, What I use is a concentrate and I mix mine with diesel to make it absorb in the rub better with less run off. It can be mixed with water and used to spray around your barns. I will be picking up a new bottle this week and read details on label to see what it says about other livestock and get back with you. Yes, that was the first born. He has to get on his knees to nurse. Time has flown by.

Jim, I too mix mine with diesel, seems to make it last longer. Artoban has gotten pretty expensive since I can't get it locally and have to order it. They charge a pretty high shipping charge because it is a chemical. I ran out of Permectin and I am going this week to pick up some more, might do some price comparison. Let me know how the tubs work. It's funny to watch the calves "play" with the rub, it's like a new toy.

I was going to use this in my barn-even went and found where to buy them. My cows haven't been in a building other than during a severe storm for over a month now. Guess they are going to have to let me use the old spray method or suffer.

Teresa, Love my rub. I can tell the difference between the cattle in the 2 fields. I don't have one hanging in the pasture by the house and I noticed a lot of flies on those cattle so when I go to town next time I am getting another one. I plan on hanging it in the field between 2 trees where they hang out.
