The girls 4H club adopted the road that goes to the school to clean up. It amazes me how much trash people throw out along the road. The dept of highways gives them the vest, gloves and bags and also pays them so much per mile. We cleaned up a couple miles of highway, but give it a couple of weeks and it will probably be bad again. Most of the trash is beer bottles and take out bags from the local deli. So sad that the people that litter are usually people that have nothing better to do but set on their butt's drink beer and order take out. What a"life" they must have. We ended up picking up 19 bags of trash then we rewarded the kids with a pizza party.
I also had a run in with my neighbors dog when I was picking up trash on my side in front of their house. They have a mini-pincher but don't let the size full you, and don't let her tell you he won't bite because the bruise on my leg will tell you otherwise. Funny thing, since I borrowed a trash bag from her and made a comment about how it was funny so much trash was in front of her house, it has remained cleaned. Go Figure????? Usually if I keep the road banks clear we don't have too much trouble with litter.
It is still raining in lovely WV. Just enough to mess up a hay field. Some of my friends are getting theirs up, since they round bale. But a few have gotten theirs wet. Homer refuses to cut any hay if there is any chance of rain. We didn't get started last year until the 23rd so at least we aren't behind yet. I am starting to get a little stir crazy though. I have been weed eating and mowing between showers. Trying to keep the weeds out of the garden. The weeds are loving this weather. I did get my first squash and cucumbers this weekend, and I went to the local market and picked up a watermelon that was actually eatable, it should have been since it cost $6.75. What's the going price for a watermelon where you live? This was one of the big oblong ones. I bought a seedless round one for $4.99 at the grocery store but the only ones who could eat it were the chickens, but I think they will eat anything or at least mine do.
I was hoping you were able to get hay up. I'm still being patient for mine, but I am already a bit concerned. For the last week or so, we've been in a really wet pattern too. It makes it hard to get anything done. I've been creative trying to find places for goats to have babies out of the rain and with someone they get along with. It's nice the 4H club takes the time and makes the effort to pick up the road.

Great job cleaning up for stupid people.

I don’t eat watermelon too messy. Kind of a shame, we have guys selling them on the road side straight form the valley nice price and good melon. I stop and get oranges big sack for $4. I think the watermelons where $5, but I really don’t pay that close attention to the melons.

Watermelons here, depending the store, are about 6.00 for a decent sized one. I no longer buy store bought melons. They are pithy and tasteless. Yuk! The donkeys love watermelons so if I buy one it is for them.
Ah, the litter thing. Yup, here too. Beer bottles, fast food trash and of course let's not forget the coffe cups from Dutch Bros or Starbucks or one of the many drive thru coffee stands that are here. Around here the inmates from the county jail pick up the trash alongside the roads.
Breathe while you can, before you know it hay season will be coming in full board! :)
Did you show the bruise the neighbors dog gave you? Hope it isn't too bad.

Teresa, Our 4H is pretty active in our community. We are small and most everyone is someones neighbor, cousin or friend.

Donna, Stupid people have no idea how they are destroying the world. And it is so funny, the ones that litter are usually the biggest gripers that think the world owes them everything.

AJ, Not real "neighborly" with this neighbor. They are new and live around the road. I was just being a smart@$$ about how much trash was just in front of her house. So funny, since my visit no more trash. Go figure??? She would probably let the dog bite me again if I went over. LOL

I don't get it either - it's like, even if you post countless signs hanged on lots of posts with stainless steel banding, or increase awareness by advertising in the web or TV, still some people tend to litter. I seriously think it's because or laziness and self-righteous ideology by some people.
